Maradona's 'Supposed' Son Captured by Police

Santiago Lara, who claimed for years to be the secret son of Argentine legend Diego Maradona, has been arrested in Argentina during a drug operation.

Santiago Lara, who has long claimed to be the alleged secret son of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, was arrested in La Plata during a police operation targeting a drug trafficking gang. Alongside him, two other suspects were detained, including his biological father, Marcelo Lara. This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on drug-related crime in the area, highlighting ongoing issues with drug trafficking in Argentina.

Santiago first came into the public eye in 2016 when he claimed to be Maradona's sixth son from a former model. His mother, who passed away from lung cancer in 2006, had purportedly had an on-and-off relationship with Maradona. Despite his assertions and a request for a DNA test, he was unable to establish any biological connection with the football star during Maradona's lifetime. Following Maradona's death on November 25, 2020, DNA tests confirmed that there was no match, effectively debunking his claims.

The recent arrest shows a stark contrast between the young man who made sensational claims nearly a decade ago and the adult now implicated in serious criminal activity. Reports indicate that Marcelo Lara is leading a drug trafficking operation, in collaboration with Santiago, which raises troubling questions about familial ties in the context of organized crime in Argentina. This incident reflects broader societal issues related to drug abuse and crime in the country.
