Military Expert: Israeli Intelligence Failed to Assess Hezbollah's Capabilities
A military expert asserts that Israeli intelligence significantly underestimated Hezbollah's capabilities, leading to heavy losses during recent confrontations.
Military and strategic expert Colonel Nidal Abu Zaid stated that Israeli forces faced stiff resistance in areas such as Kfar Kila, Tel Hamamess, and the Heights, which completely obstructed their advance, resulting in substantial casualties for the Givati Brigade due to anti-tank weaponry. He emphasized that the Israeli military intelligence unit, Aman, clearly failed to accurately assess Hezbollah's actual capabilities, which directly affected the performance of attacking forces in the field.
During a military analysis segment, Abu Zaid elaborated that Israel initiated simultaneous operations at three sites, namely Nabi Sheet, Al-Khariba, and Ma'raboun, as part of a military tactic known as selective "pick-up" operations. He indicated that these operations were likely carried out by the 98th Paratroopers Brigade, which includes a Commando Battalion and two companies, composed of three distinct units: an assault unit, a support unit, and a logistical support unit.
Abu Zaid speculated that the potential aim of the operation could have been to recover the remains of Israeli pilot Ron Arad, as intelligence indicators suggested that relevant information was available. This claim points to broader implications regarding the effectiveness of Israeli military strategies and highlights the ongoing tactical and intelligence challenges in the region, particularly concerning the evolving dynamics between Israel and Hezbollah.
