Liberia: Esol Pushes for Independence, Youth Empowerment At World Engineering Day Celebration
The Engineering Society of Liberia calls for independence and youth empowerment during the World Engineering Day celebration while unveiling a vision for the future of engineering in the country.
The Engineering Society of Liberia (ESOL) celebrated World Engineering Day 2026 with a focus on institutional independence and youth empowerment, featuring a ceremony that honored the critical contributions of engineers toward sustainable development. President Eng. David D. Wounuah highlighted the importance of a more autonomous ESOL, suggesting that greater independence would enhance the effectiveness and influence of the engineering profession in Liberia. With this year's theme being 'Smart Engineering for a Sustainable Future Through Innovation and Digitalization,' the event included a range of activities aimed at inspiring the next generation of engineers.
The celebration was marked by various engaging activities such as a parade, debate competition, speeches, and discussions on the evolving challenges and opportunities within the engineering sector. The emphasis on youth empowerment underscored the society's commitment to fostering a new generation of engineers who are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to address local and global engineering issues. This aligns with the global recognition of engineering's role in achieving sustainable development, as endorsed by UNESCO and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO).
The future vision presented by ESOL aims to not only strengthen the engineering profession but also contributes to broader national development goals by integrating innovation and digitalization into the engineering practice. By advocating for independence and actively involving youth in these discussions, ESOL is paving the way for an empowered and sustainable engineering sector in Liberia that can meet current demands and future challenges surrounding sustainability and innovation.
