Dubai Airport temporarily suspends operations after object seizure
Dubai International Airport has temporarily halted operations due to safety concerns following an object seizure nearby that was accompanied by explosions and smoke.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) has paused its operations to ensure the safety of passengers, airport staff, and airline crews. This decision was announced by the Dubai government's media office on social media, pointing to an incident involving a seizure of an object near the airport. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion that resulted in a plume of smoke rising into the air, prompting immediate action from authorities to suspend operations temporarily.
Prior to the announcement, air traffic tracking website Flightradar24 indicated that numerous aircraft were circling above the airport, likely awaiting clearance to land or direction from air traffic control. While there have been ongoing drone attacks targeting various sites in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), flights from Dubai's main airport were partially restored later on Monday, indicating an effort to normalize operations despite security incidents.
Emirates Airlines, the largest airline in the Middle East, also announced that it would stop all flights to and from Dubai until further notice, urging passengers not to head to the airport. This situation raises concerns regarding air travel security in the region, especially in light of recent threats and incidents involving aerial assaults, highlighting the importance of effective communication and safety measures in airports to safeguard travelers and airline operations.
