Traffic Blockade in Central Helsinki on Sunday
Traffic in central Helsinki will be blocked on Sunday due to a women’s day march, affecting multiple public transport lines.
On Sunday, traffic will be halted in central Helsinki from 1 PM to 4 PM due to a women’s day march, as announced by the City of Helsinki. The blockade extends between Aleksanterinkatu and the Parliament House, significantly impacting both vehicular and public transport access in the area.
The public transportation operator HSL has indicated that tram line 4 will follow a detour from 1:30 PM to 3 PM, re-routing through main railway stations and alternative streets to accommodate the march. Additional delays may occur on lines 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9, with buses departing from Rautatientori also experiencing potential delays as the march begins.
While major streets will be closed to vehicular traffic, most of these areas will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists, ensuring that local residents and attendees can still navigate around the event. This significant public event not only affects traffic patterns but also highlights the social focus on women’s rights being promoted through the march.
