Nihon University Third High School withdraws from the Tokyo Metropolitan High School Baseball Tournament due to suspected sharing of inappropriate videos by members

Nihon University Third High School's baseball team has withdrawn from the Tokyo Metropolitan High School Baseball Tournament amid allegations that team members shared inappropriate videos involving minors.

On July 7, Nihon University Third High School, located in Machida, Tokyo, announced that its baseball team would withdraw from the upcoming Tokyo Metropolitan High School Baseball Tournament. The decision comes in light of serious allegations that some team members shared inappropriate videos involving a minor taken without consent. The school had previously suspended the baseball team's activities since February 12 while reviewing their coaching and dormitory management after the incident came to light.

The school's official website stated that the baseball team has paused its operations and is actively reviewing its guidance framework and dormitory management system due to the severity of the situation. They articulated that under the current circumstances, they believe it is best to withdraw from the spring tournament rather than participate. The tournament is significant, as the draw for matches is set for the 8th, with preliminary rounds starting on the 14th, and teams that reach the top 16 in the main tournament, commencing on April 1, gain seed rights for the summer national high school baseball championships.

This withdrawal reflects the growing scrutiny over the behavior of youth organizations and highlights the need for greater awareness and preventive measures against inappropriate conduct, particularly in schools, where such incidents can have long-lasting effects on students and the reputation of institutions. This situation might also prompt other schools to evaluate their conduct policies and enforcement mechanisms to ensure the safety of minors in their programs.
