Family seeks last work of concrete artist that disappeared in MG

The family of artist Aluísio Carvão is offering a reward for the missing painting 'Lamento no Morro', which vanished in September.

The family of acclaimed Brazilian artist Aluísio Carvão is actively searching for his last painting, 'Lamento no Morro', which has been missing since September. This work, measuring 75 cm x 75 cm, was created for an exhibition titled 'Imagem do Som de Antônio Carlos Jobim' in 2001, showcasing the art inspired by the famous Brazilian composer. Tragically, Carvão passed away just one week before the exhibition opened, adding a layer of poignancy to the loss of this piece.

The painting holds significant emotional value for Carvão's family, particularly for his grandson, Mário Carvão, who expressed the deep sentimental attachment tied to it being the last artwork created by his grandfather. Mário highlighted that the painting was made in their home during the final months of the artist's life, making its recovery even more imperative for the family. After extensive searching, the family has taken to digital advertisements in Poços de Caldas to spread the word about the missing piece in hopes of locating it.

The last known whereabouts of 'Lamento no Morro' trace back to when Aluísio Carvão Júnior, the artist's son, left the work at a printing company in Poços de Caldas. This situation underscores not only the loss of a pivotal piece of Brazilian art history but also the personal connection that family members have with the work, making its return not just a matter of recovering an artwork but also of preserving family legacy and memories surrounding the late artist's life and contributions to the art world.
