The Finnish Minister of Justice and Estonian Minister of Justice signed an agreement in Brussels to transfer Estonian prisoners back to Estonia.
Finnish Minister of Justice Leena Meri and Estonian Minister of Justice and Digitalisation Liisa-Ly Pakosta recently signed an agreement in Brussels aiming to facilitate the transfer of Estonian prisoners from Finland back to their home country. This agreement reflects both countries' commitment to expedite the processing of transfer requests and prioritize arrangements whenever possible. Currently, Estonia is revamping its national laws to remove a regulation that has prevented the transfer of Estonians serving sentences of less than six months.
