Vida is not yet thinking about the end of his career, Dalić is still looking for support staff
Domagoj Vida has decided to continue his playing career instead of joining the coaching staff of the Croatian national team.
In recent weeks, it was speculated that Domagoj Vida would become a new member of the coaching staff for the Croatian national team ahead of the World Cup. However, he has informed the Croatian Football Federation and coach Zlatko Dalić that he plans to continue his football career, indicating that he is not ready to say a final goodbye to the sport just yet. According to reports, despite his recent retirement from the national team following the 2024 European Championship, he still believes he can play for at least another season.
Vida's contract with the Greek club AEK is set to expire this summer. Although he is no longer a regular starter, he still occasionally gets the chance to play, having made three appearances in nine matches in 2026. In his latest match, he played the full 90 minutes, showing that he remains competitive and capable on the pitch. Despite approaching 37 years of age, Vida feels he still has a lot to offer, whether it be in Greece or at another club, and he is reluctant to make any decisions about ending his career while he still feels fit to play.
Meanwhile, Croatia's national team coach, Zlatko Dalić, has recently mentioned that he is looking for an assistant coach to bolster his staff ahead of upcoming challenges. The search for additional support highlights the ongoing preparations for future competitions, demonstrating Dalić's commitment to strengthening the team as they aim for success on the international stage.
