UP: Electricity turned on during repair, lineman dies from electrocution

A 32-year-old lineman in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, died after coming into contact with a live high-tension power line during maintenance work.

On Friday, a tragic incident occurred in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a 32-year-old private lineman died after coming in contact with a high-tension power line while performing maintenance. The accident took place in Arjunpur village, located under the jurisdiction of the Motigarpur police station, when the lineman was involved in shifting an 11,000-volt power line along the roadside. According to a police official, the lineman was identified as Rang Bahadur, hailing from Hamzabad village near Jaisinghpur police station.

Reports indicate that Rang Bahadur was working with a contractor to shift the power line. After completing the initial part of the work, he allegedly took a shutdown to reconnect a jumper wire. Despite this, electricity remained live, resulting in him receiving a severe electric shock. Upon being electrocuted, he fell from the pole and suffered serious burns. His coworkers quickly transported him to the Community Health Center in Jaisinghpur, where he was given medical assistance but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

This incident raises significant concerns regarding safety protocols and the procedures followed during maintenance work. It highlights the critical need for stringent adherence to safety measures to protect workers in high-risk environments such as electrical maintenance.
