São Paulo International Theater Festival begins this Friday with performances on social themes

The São Paulo International Theater Festival, starting on Friday, will feature performances addressing various social issues such as violence and immigration.

The Mostra Internacional de Teatro de São Paulo (MITsp) will kick off its 11th edition this Friday, showcasing a diverse array of performances that tackle pressing social issues including violence, surveillance, homophobia, immigration, and social control. The festival will span ten days and includes not only theatrical plays but also workshops, debates, and encounters with artists and researchers, aiming to engage the public in critical discussions surrounding these themes.

The opening performance will be 'História da Violência,' an adaptation of a book by French author Édouard Louis, directed by Thomas Ostermeier and produced by the renowned German company Schaubühne. Taking place at Teatro Liberdade, this production sets the tone for the festival, emphasizing the importance of art in reflecting and questioning societal norms related to violence and personal narratives.

In addition to international performances, the festival features several key activities organized into four main categories: Showcases, MITbr – Brazilian Platform, Educational Actions, and Critical Perspectives. With ticket sales already underway, the MITsp invites audiences to experience theater not just as entertainment, but as a vital medium for social commentary and change in today's society.
