Construction did not grow in the month, but improved by 1.2% compared to 2025
Construction activity remained stable in January, with a slight improvement of 1.2% year-on-year despite not showing month-on-month growth.
The construction sector in Argentina ended January with the same level of activity it had in December 2025, signaling stabilization despite not yet establishing a clear growth cycle. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec), the month-on-month variation was zero, while the year-on-year comparison showed a positive advance of 1.2%. This is particularly significant considering that the sector recorded a 3.3% decline in January of the previous year.
Economist Gustavo Vallejo, head of the Statistics Department of the Institute of Statistics and Registration of Construction Activity (Ieric), remarked on the positive aspect of January's performance being equivalent to December's figures, especially in light of the prior year's downturn. Vallejo emphasized that while registered employment in the construction industry has not yet recovered to the levels seen in 2023, there are signs of improvement in January. This suggests that while challenges remain, the construction sector may be on a more stable footing going forward.
The data indicates that stakeholders in the construction industry may be cautiously optimistic, recognizing the potential for recovery and growth if the current trend continues. This stabilization could have broader implications for the economy, reflecting greater confidence among investors and a gradual return to pre-crisis levels of activity within the sector, which is crucial for overall economic resurgence in Argentina.
