Marten Liiv finished seventh in the overall standings of the sprint all-round event at the World Speed Skating Championships held in Heerenveen. After starting the competition in sixth place, he faced difficulties in improving his position due to the significant point gaps between him and the athletes ahead. Liiv needed to perform exceptionally well in the races on Friday to maintain his sixth-place standing, especially with close competitors trailing closely behind him.
On the first day of the competition, Liiv posted a time of 34.87 seconds in the 500-meter race, ranking him tenth for that distance, which caused him to drop to eighth place in the overall standings. He managed to secure a sixth-place finish in the 1000-meter event with a time of 1:08.87. By accumulating a total of 138.245 points from his four races, Liiv ended the championship in seventh place out of 26 competitors.
The championship was dominated by the Netherlands' Jenning De Boo, who claimed the title with 134.670 points after winning the first three races and recording the second-best time in the final race. The silver medal went to Jordan Stolz from the USA (135.500 points), and bronze was awarded to Zhongyan Ning from China (136.755 points). Liiv's performance showcased his skills and determination despite the challenges he faced during the championship.
