Subsecretariat orders statutory reform of the Guayaquil Airport Authority
The Subsecretariat for Air Transport in Ecuador has mandated the Guayaquil Airport Authority to initiate a comprehensive statutory reform to enhance governance and ensure effective state participation.
The Subsecretariat for Air Transport, which is part of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in Ecuador, has issued an order for the Guayaquil Airport Authority (AAG) to immediately begin a comprehensive reform of its statutory framework. This decision was communicated through an official letter dated March 4, emphasizing the need for improved institutional governance that aligns with the current constitutional framework. The reform aims to enhance state participation in strategic, budgetary, and control decisions, ensuring that public resource management is conducted with shared responsibility and state oversight.
One of the key aspects of this statutory reform is to establish a board that reflects institutional balance, comprising five representatives from the State and five representatives appointed by the organizationβs members. This structural change aims to create an environment of equality within the governance framework, ensuring that all relevant stakeholders have a voice. The call for reform signifies a shift towards more transparent and accountable management practices within the Guayaquil Airport Authority.
This initiative comes at a crucial time for air transport governance in Ecuador, considering the role of the Guayaquil airport as a significant hub for both domestic and international flights. By enhancing its governance structure, the AAG is expected to improve operational efficiency and align itself better with national and international aviation standards, ultimately benefiting passengers and contributing to Ecuador's economic development.
