Electoral Court suspends survey in Alagoas due to flaws and risk of misinformation
The Electoral Tribunal of Alagoas has suspended a recently released electoral survey due to methodological flaws that could misrepresent the state’s electoral landscape.
On October 6, the Electoral Tribunal of Alagoas (TRE-AL) ordered the suspension of a publicized electoral survey conducted by Falpe Pesquisas, which was registered under number AL-05611/2026. This action originated from a request made by the state directory of the MDB party, highlighting concerns over the survey's methodology and its implications for accurate electoral representation.
The ruling, issued by Judge Maurício César Breda Filho, pointed out significant methodological shortcomings in the survey, particularly that it only included interviews from municipalities within the Metropolitan Region of Maceió. This geographical limitation excludes about 65% of Alagoas's electorate, especially those from rural regions, leading to potential distortions in the survey's findings regarding state-level positions such as governor and senator.
The judge emphasized that the dissemination of such surveys requires strict technical standards due to their potential influence on public opinion and electoral behavior. The decision to suspend this survey reflects a commitment to accuracy and integrity in the electoral process, safeguarding against misinformation that could mislead voters during this critical election period.
