Storms spread across SC after a week of sun and heat; see the forecast for the weekend
After a week of sunshine and heat, a cold front is bringing storms and a drop in temperatures to Santa Catarina this weekend.
Following a prolonged period of sun and high temperatures in Santa Catarina, a cold front is set to disrupt the weather, with forecasts indicating isolated storms, particularly in the Western region starting Friday afternoon. The stateβs Civil Defense warns that these storms may form quickly and could accompanied by strong wind gusts and hail, although their duration is expected to be brief.
As these weather patterns evolve, temperatures are projected to remain high throughout Friday, with highs exceeding 35Β°C in some areas, especially in the West and Extreme West, potentially reaching up to 37Β°C. However, the transition to cooler weather will begin shortly after with rain anticipated in the Serra and Southern coast regions, albeit with a lower risk of severe weather phenomena.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued alerts in anticipation of these changes, emphasizing the need for residents to be prepared for abrupt weather shifts over the weekend. These storms are significant as they mark a change from the hot weather, serving as a reminder of the volatility in seasonal weather patterns in the region, particularly during this time of year.
