N.B. mother has the inside track on stroller run world record

A Fredericton mother is on the verge of setting a Guinness World Record for the fastest women's one-kilometre run while pushing a stroller.

Julia Reid-Howell, a middle school art teacher from Fredericton, has been running since giving birth 17 months ago. Recently, she shattered the world record for the fastest women’s one-kilometre run while pushing a stroller, completing the distance in an impressive three minutes and 17 seconds. This marks a significant personal achievement and adds to her journey as a mother and athlete, combining her new responsibilities with her passion for running.

As she embarks on the process of submitting her record-breaking run to Guinness, Reid-Howell's record comes as a notable accomplishment in the realm of stroller running, which has gained popularity in recent years. Her time surpassed the previous record held by a French athlete, which was three minutes and 35 seconds. Reid-Howell is currently gathering the required documentation, including photographs and verification from independent witnesses to validate her claim.

If successful, Reid-Howell's achievement would place her alongside another Canadian, Brendan Neely, who set the men’s one-kilometre stroller record last May, hence both the men’s and women’s records would be held by Canadians. This highlights not only individual success but also the growing recognition of stroller running as a competitive sport, encouraging more parents to combine fitness with family time.
