N. Cesiulis: we will not nominate a candidate for the chair of LSDP, the branch is against a coalition with the 'aušriečiai'

A branch of Lithuania's LSDP party has unanimously decided against forming a coalition with the party led by Remigijus Žemaitaitis, citing dissatisfaction with transparency issues in its finances.

During a recent meeting on Friday evening, members of the Alytus branch of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), led by N. Cesiulis, overwhelmingly voted against forming a coalition with the 'Nemuno aušra' party, led by Remigijus Žemaitaitis. This decision reflects growing concerns among party members about the integrity and transparency of the opposing party's financing. Out of 240 members present, 130 voted against the coalition, indicating a clear stance that the two parties should not work together.

Cesiulis, who is a prominent social democrat, emphasized that this decision was not made lightly and that it represents the voice of the members in the Alytus branch. He mentioned plans to reach out to the LSDP leadership to initiate similar discussions across other branches of the party to gauge their views on the proposed coalition. This approach seeks to ensure that all voices within the party are heard and considered before any further decisions are made regarding alliances.

The local party's dissatisfaction with the financial transparency of 'Nemuno aušra' has been a significant factor leading to this decision. There are concerns about the credibility of Žemaitaitis and his party, which may indicate broader implications for the LSDP's future alliances and electoral strategies as they assess the viability of potential collaborations against this backdrop of mistrust.
