MSP defines overseer for Teodoro Maldonado Carbo hospital

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health has appointed Daniel Rodríguez as the overseer for the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo hospital following a government intervention due to a recent violent incident.

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health, under the leadership of Vice President María José Pinto, has appointed Daniel Rodríguez as the overseer of the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo hospital, affiliated with the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS). Rodríguez previously served as the general manager of the hospital, which positions him uniquely to understand its operations and challenges.

This intervention comes as a response to a recent violent incident involving a key hospital staff member, Carlos Maruri, who was murdered last Tuesday. In response to this alarming event, President Daniel Noboa has issued an executive decree that places the Ministry of Health in direct control of the hospital's administration during the intervention phase, highlighting the urgency of restoring safety and operational stability within the facility.

Additionally, the decree provides for the general management of the hospital to be handed over to Marco Javier Maldonado Carrasco, the general director of IESS. This move reflects the government's commitment to ensuring that health services are maintained at a high standard while addressing safety concerns within the hospital environment, emphasizing the need for effective leadership during a critical transition period.
