Police enter the supporter section: "Should be able to operate in all parts of society"

The Swedish police are testing a new approach by entering supporter areas during football matches to address ongoing issues with illegal flare use.

The ongoing debate about the use of illegal flares for creating atmosphere among Swedish football supporters has led the police to reconsider their strategies. Traditionally, the police avoided entering the supporters' sections due to potential escalations in safety concerns, opting instead for a post-event approach aimed at identifying individuals for prosecution. However, this year the West region police are experimenting with a new tactic, which was notably applied during a recent Swedish Cup match between Gais and Landskrona, where police visibly occupied the home supporters' section. This led to a noticeable protest among supporters, who refrained from singing and displaying banners or flags, as reported by Göteborgs-Posten.
