Tennis Association's Chair Resigns – After Financial Tycoons' Ultimatum

Ã…sa Hedin, chair of the Swedish Tennis Association, announces she will not run for re-election following pressure from financiers who demanded a board change.

On Friday afternoon, the Swedish Tennis Association announced on its website that its chair, Ã…sa Hedin, will not seek re-election at the annual meeting scheduled for April 26. Hedin expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to lead an organization comprising over 110,000 members and emphasized the strong volunteer engagement across the country. She reflected on the achievements made during her tenure with pride, stating, "It has been a great privilege to lead this organization."

The shift comes after prominent financiers Christer Gardell and Ulf Rosberg revealed they were prepared to invest 100 million SEK to elevate Swedish tennis, contingent upon the replacement of Hedin's board at the upcoming meeting. Despite Hedin's previous confidence in the mandate held by her board from the association's members, the financial pressure proved decisive. She had previously stressed the necessity of maintaining the trust from the members while continuing efforts for improvement in Swedish tennis.

Now announcing her decision not to run for re-election, Hedin's resignation marks a significant turning point for the Swedish Tennis Association. The outcomes of the upcoming annual meeting and the actions of the new board, alongside the potential financial backing from Gardell and Rosberg, will be pivotal for the future direction of tennis in Sweden.
