Everyone Attacked Zelensky: Orban Also Received Support from Radicals
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban receives solidarity from far-right leaders in response to remarks made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has garnered support from several far-right leaders following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's recent remarks. Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, representing the far-right party Lega, expressed his solidarity with Orban, emphasizing concerns about foreign interference and threats that he perceives are directed at Hungary. Salvini indicated intentions to travel to Budapest soon to publicly demonstrate this solidarity.
In addition to Salvini, Alice Weidel, a co-leader of the German far-right party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), has shown her support for Orban by reposting his statement on social media, condemning Zelensky's comments. The backlash against Zelensky is significant, indicating a growing alliance among European far-right factions in defense of Orban and opposition to Ukraine's stance. These reactions are critical as they signal an emerging political solidarity among extreme right parties across Europe, particularly in the context of tensions involving Ukraine.
Robert Fico, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, has also weighed in, voicing his complete solidarity with Orban and warning that if Zelensky continues his behavior, it could threaten Ukraine’s financial support from other EU member states. These responses highlight the potential for wider political ramifications in Europe, especially regarding support for Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia, while also showcasing the delicate balance that some European leaders are trying to maintain between national interests and broader geopolitical alliances.
