In a significant operation conducted by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG), 23 wild birds were rescued from illegal captivity in Belo Horizonte on Thursday morning. The operation targeted three men who were held responsible for committing environmental crimes associated with the illegal trapping and breeding of native bird species. Authorities from the Specialized Delegate for Crimes Against Fauna had previously identified suspicious cages containing native birds at various locations across the city, leading to their decisive enforcement action.

The police forces executed four search and seizure warrants at suspected locations of illegal breeding. During these inspections, they discovered a variety of birds being kept in cramped cages. The species confiscated included four trinca-ferros (a type of songbird), and several other native species such as the sofrê, common tico-tico, azulão, coleiros, pretinhos, papa-capins, and venezuelan goldfinches.
