The National Court processes the narcopoliceman caught with millions of euros walled up in his house

The National Court in Spain has begun proceedings against Óscar Sánchez, a police inspector accused of colluding with drug traffickers and possessing over 20 million euros in cash, some hidden in walls of his home.

The National Court (Audiencia Nacional) in Spain has initiated legal proceedings against Óscar Sánchez Gil, a chief inspector from the Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit (UDEF). Detained in 2024, Sánchez was found in possession of more than 20 million euros, which included cash hidden within the walls of his residence. This shocking discovery has prompted serious legal scrutiny, given Sanchez's position within the police force.

Investigators believe that Sánchez played a crucial role in facilitating the entry of narcotics into Spain. The case against him alleges that he assisted a drug trafficking organization in smuggling at least 39 containers, which contained over 73 tons of cocaine. The total value of these drugs on the market is estimated to exceed 2.5 billion euros, highlighting the severe implications of his involvement in organized crime.

This case raises significant concerns about corruption within law enforcement agencies in Spain and the broader issue of drug trafficking. As the legal process unfolds, it could expose the extent of collusion between police officials and drug cartels, and potentially lead to reforms aimed at enhancing the integrity of law enforcement in the fight against drug-related crimes.
