Watch.. Israeli bombing destroys neighborhoods in Nabatieh and targets a school and a nursery
Israeli airstrikes heavily damaged the city of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon, targeting civilian structures including a school and a nursery, prompting mass evacuations.
On Friday, the city of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon endured a series of Israeli airstrikes, resulting in widespread destruction and compelling many residents to flee for their safety. Managed by Al Jazeeraβs Mazen Ibrahim, the coverage highlighted the severe impact of the aerial bombardment, which has left neighborhoods in ruins, creating significant debris in the streets and increasing the sense of urgency among the populace to evacuate the area.
The strikes, which totaled 15 air raids, specifically targeted a school and a major commercial complex in the region, alongside a children's nursery, according to eyewitness accounts relayed by the Al Jazeera bureau director. This escalation in violence forms part of a broader pattern of Israeli military actions in response to perceived threats from Hezbollah and other groups linked to the southern Lebanon area, causing panic among civilians and intensifying the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Nabatieh, the fifth largest city in Lebanon with a population of around 120,000, and an additional 30,000 in surrounding areas, has experienced a significant exodus due to the ongoing threats. The governorate itself, totalling about 400,000 residents, is now witnessing a mass displacement as Israeli forces have issued evacuation orders to hundreds of thousands of civilians living in proximity to the southern Litani region, raising alarms about a potential humanitarian disaster as more families are forced to leave their homes.
