In the Train Station District: Munich Has a New Tavern

A new Bavarian tavern named Hofbräu has opened its doors in Munich's train station district, welcoming guests since March 4, 2023, with a grand opening event scheduled for March 19, 2023.

Hofbräu, a new Bavarian tavern located on Schwanthalerstraße in Munich’s train station district, has officially opened its doors to the public as of March 4, 2023, following a five-month renovation period. This establishment, which is operated by Frank Mansory, aims to offer a traditional Bavarian dining experience, a shift from his previous ventures that included international cuisine such as Japanese sushi. The tavern has begun its service with limited hours, initially opening at 5 PM, but will expand its hours to welcome patrons starting at 11:30 AM on weekends.

Frank Mansory is not new to the area, as he runs the nearby Trattoria Mia and previously took over the space that now houses Hofbräu from Lorenz Stiftl in 2018. Stiftl struggled with the Theatergaststätte Schwan, and Mansory is aiming to breathe new life into the venue by providing a consistent and appealing Bavarian atmosphere. His vision reflects a growing trend in Munich’s hospitality industry where local traditions and culinary heritage are being emphasized.

The official grand opening celebration is set for March 19, 2023, and there is anticipation around how the venue will integrate into the local dining scene, attracting both locals and tourists. This tavern is expected to contribute positively to the cultural identity of the train station district, making Bavarian cuisine accessible within a vibrant, centrally-located environment.
