Robbery Murder in Nagoya: 32-Year-Old Woman Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Stealing Over 70 Million Yen in Jewelry

A 32-year-old woman was sentenced to life imprisonment for the robbery and murder of a man in Nagoya, where she stole jewelry valued at over 70 million yen.

In a shocking case of robbery and murder, a 32-year-old unemployed woman named Asuka Uchida was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Nagoya District Court for the killing of a 42-year-old man and the subsequent theft of valuable items worth over 70 million yen. The judge, Kyouko Irie, described the motive behind the murder as extremely selfish, highlighting that Uchida squandered the stolen goods on lavish spending in host clubs and other personal indulgences after the crime.

The prosecution argued that Uchida had suffocated the victim, with a medical expert testifying that death was highly likely due to pressure applied to the neck. The court considered the circumstantial evidence against her, such as her solitary presence at the victim's home before the murder and her actions immediately afterward, which included selling the stolen jewelry. Despite Uchida's defense asserting the death was accidental and claiming the victim had requested assistance, the evidence pointed strongly towards her having committed murder for financial gain.

In the matter of the disposal of the victim's body, the prosecution initially implicated a former male employee of a host club as an accomplice in the act of body disposal. However, the court later found that Uchida acted alone, noting that the time both individuals spent together at the victim's residence was minimal. On September 29, 2023, Uchida not only murdered the man by strangulation but also robbed him of 80,000 yen in cash and approximately 1,380 other items, before concealing the body in a closet until October 4.
