G. Nausėda on evacuation from the Middle East: the priority is to help people return safely

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized the government's commitment to safely evacuate vulnerable individuals from the Middle East amid ongoing tensions.

In a press briefing held in Kaunas, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda addressed the ongoing evacuation efforts from the Middle East, underscoring the government's obligation to ensure the safe return of its citizens and vulnerable individuals. He mentioned that there are currently people awaiting flights at Dubai Airport to return to Lithuania, which the state considers a priority in its evacuation plan. Nausėda stressed the importance of providing immediate assistance to those in need, particularly during turbulent situations where prompt actions are essential.

The Foreign Ministry of Lithuania announced that an evacuation flight operated by FlyDubai has departed from Dubai to Vilnius, carrying 166 passengers, including 120 Lithuanian citizens, as well as individuals from Latvia and Estonia. This initiative reflects a coordinated effort from the Lithuanian government to address the emergent needs of its citizens and regional neighbors during a critical time. Nausėda reiterated that the safety and health of repatriated individuals remain paramount, dismissing any actions that may jeopardize their well-being.

This evacuation operation is part of broader diplomatic efforts in response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, signaling Lithuania's commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad. The successful execution of this flight can pave the way for further evacuations, alleviating the fears of families and individuals affected by the situation. The effectiveness of these measures may set a precedent for future governmental responses to international crises involving its citizens.
