Hundreds of thousands have been uprooted from their homes in Lebanon; Ministry of Health in the country: 123 killed since the outbreak of war
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reports 123 deaths and over 680 injuries due to the conflict, with hundreds of thousands displaced including thousands from southern Lebanon after Israeli military evacuation orders.
The ongoing conflict in Lebanon has significantly escalated, as reported by the Ministry of Health, which confirmed 123 fatalities and 683 injuries since hostilities began. The situation has forced tens of thousands from their homes in the Dahieh suburb of Beirut, following an evacuation announcement by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) directed towards the residents of southern Lebanon. This adds to the already dire humanitarian situation, as hundreds of thousands of individuals have been displaced due to mandatory evacuations ordered by the IDF towards the north of the Litani River.
The United Nations refugee agency has indicated that approximately 96,000 displaced individuals are currently residing in around 441 shelters across Lebanon. Meanwhile, many others have sought refuge in hotels, rental apartments, with relatives, in vehicles, or are even living on the streets. There are reports indicating that some displaced people are attempting to return to their homes because they lack alternative lodging options. The humanitarian situation remains critical, compounded by ongoing military operations and airstrikes in various areas, including neighborhoods in Beirut and towns in southern Lebanon.
Recent reports include airstrikes in several Beirut neighborhoods such as Al-Hadath and Harika, and attacks on the city of Nabatiyeh and villages in the Baalbek region. Civilian Muslim institutions have reportedly been among the buildings targeted in these strikes. Additionally, the Lebanese Red Cross has been actively participating in the humanitarian response, assisting those caught in the ongoing conflict, which continues to exacerbate the suffering of the civilian population caught in the crossfire of this violent escalation.
