Police investigates occupational safety crime in Äänekoski – three city officials suspected

The police in Central Finland are investigating three city officials in Äänekoski for potential occupational safety violations and breach of official duties.

The Central Finland Police Department has been investigating the actions of Äänekoski officials since autumn, focusing on possible occupational safety crimes. According to the investigation leader, Veli-Pekka Välisaari, the police and the prosecutor established last week that the investigation is primarily centered around occupational safety crimes. In addition to these accusations, the officials are also being examined for potentially violating their official duties or misusing their positions in office.

Välisaari noted that the matter concerning the city is complex and not entirely straightforward, as there are three individuals involved, all of whom are public officials connected to the city of Äänekoski. Of these, two are suspected of occupational safety crimes while one is being investigated for a breach of official duties. The police have not disclosed the identities of the officials under scrutiny, which adds a layer of secrecy about the case.

Furthermore, Yle reports that during the preliminary investigation phase, police have received additional crime reports that could be relevant to the case. One of these relates to how the city council of Äänekoski has managed certain issues related to the public administration's responsibilities. This situation raises concerns about accountability within public offices and how safety protocols have been maintained in municipal operations.
