Action Day Women’s Strike: "There is still a double standard"

The 'Daughters Collective' in Germany has called for a nationwide women's strike to raise awareness of the extensive caregiving work that women continue to perform, both paid and unpaid.

In Germany, a new feminist movement known as the 'Daughters Collective' has mobilized thousands of people to participate in a nationwide women's strike on March 9th. This strike, however, is not a traditional labor strike with locked doors, but rather a political action aimed at highlighting the significant amount of caregiving work that women undertake. This includes both paid jobs and unpaid labor, which often goes unrecognized in society.

The movement's key focus is on awareness-raising, particularly in the region of Moosburg, where a demonstration is set to take place at 16:00 in the city center. Organizers, including Susanne Kerscher, a social worker and lead organizer of the event, emphasize the importance of recognizing the dual standards that exist regarding women's contributions to society. The upcoming strike is an opportunity for collective action and solidarity among women and their allies, advocating for better recognition and support for care work.

As the movement grows, it challenges the societal norms that undervalue women's work. The Daughters Collective aims to not only inform the public about the realities of caregiving but also to galvanize political support for policies that might address these inequalities, thus promoting a significant cultural shift regarding gender and labor in Germany.
