Two out of three Spaniards against the war in Iran

A recent poll reveals that a significant majority of Spaniards oppose the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran.

According to a poll conducted by 40dB and reported by EL Pais, 68.2% of Spaniards are against the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran. This considerable opposition extends beyond the left-leaning supporters of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, as only 23.2% of respondents expressed support for the military efforts. The poll indicates a shift in public sentiment regarding international conflicts, suggesting a broader anti-war stance prevalent among the Spanish population.

Additionally, 53.2% of those surveyed support the controversial decision made by the Spanish government to deny the United States access to two Spanish military bases for operational use in the Iranian conflict. This level of support reflects strong public backing for the government's approach to foreign military engagements and represents a significant divergence from previous alignments with U.S. military initiatives.

The survey also highlighted differing opinions on political leadership, with only 42.2% approving Sánchez’s actions, while merely 18.7% supported the opposition leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who criticized the government's stance without condemning the war. This poll comes at a time of heightened political tensions and may influence upcoming electoral choices, as the public grapples with the implications of their government's foreign policy decisions on their national identity and international relations.
