Europol: 13 Swedes Arrested in Global Drug Network
Europol and Swedish police have arrested 13 individuals in Sweden as part of a major operation against a global drug trafficking network known as 'Candy'.
Europol will hold a press conference at 10 AM on Friday to discuss the operation they've labeled 'Candy', which has involved a collaborative effort with Swedish police. This crackdown has led to the apprehension of several suspects linked to a global drug trafficking network, which is also accused of large-scale money laundering activities. This multifaceted crime has reportedly been camouflaged behind a complex web of companies.
Mats Berggren, the acting deputy chief at the National Operations Department (Noa), confirmed that in total, 13 Swedish nationals have been arrested in connection with this operation, alongside three others detained in Thailand. These individuals have ties to various criminal organizations, suggesting a wider network of criminal activity extending beyond Sweden's borders. The operation indicates a significant step in addressing organized crime that has remained hidden for an extended period.
According to Mats Berggren's statements during the press conference, further arrests are anticipated as the investigation unfolds. The involvement of multiple countries and the scale of the operation signify a concerted effort by law enforcement agencies to combat international drug trafficking and associated financial crimes. This development underscores the challenges of obscured criminal enterprises operating under the guise of legitimate business operations and highlights the ongoing efforts needed to dismantle such networks.
