This initiative aims to assist those who use large amounts of water due to specific medical needs or family size. It involves a criteria change where eligibility will now extend to households claiming certain disability benefits, such as Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance, or Personal Independence Payments (PIP), with an income cap of £25,745 per year.

Currently, approximately 260,000 households are benefiting from this scheme, which helps limit water bills for those who have a water meter and are categorized as high water users. The new eligibility criteria are intended to provide better support to families and individuals in need, particularly those with medical conditions necessitating higher water usage or larger families with three or more children living at home. The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs is encouraging eligible households to take advantage of this expanded assistance.
