Caramel dog 'Charlie' rescued at airport in Guarulhos becomes official mascot and even receives an ID badge
Charlie, a caramel-colored dog, has been adopted as the official mascot of São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport, complete with a personalized ID card.
In a heartwarming turn of events at the São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport, known as the busiest in Latin America, a friendly caramel-colored dog named Charlie has found a new home and purpose as the airport's official mascot. Charlie, who previously wandered the terminal amidst the hustle of passengers and luggage, was adopted by the airport staff and now proudly carries the title "GRU AU01" along with a personalized ID badge. The initiative was part of the airport's efforts to create a welcoming atmosphere for travelers and staff alike.
The journey to Charlie’s adoption began when airport employees noticed her roaming the premises last year. Cintia Nunes, the communication manager of GRU Airport, explained that staff were initially cautious about intervening, uncertain if Charlie had an owner or if she was just a frequent visitor like another local dog which sometimes pops by for food. After monitoring her presence, it became clear that Charlie was without a home. The compassionate airport team took action to ensure her safety and well-being by formally rescuing her.
Now integrated into the airport community, Charlie's presence has not only brightened the day-to-day atmosphere at the busy airport but has also engaged passengers, sparking joy and interactions. Her role as mascot is a delightful addition to the airport's environment, showcasing how a simple act of kindness can create a positive impact on both staff and travelers. This initiative also highlights broader themes of animal welfare and community engagement within urban settings.
