Promoting Training in Structural Cardiology from LATAM

An initiative in structural cardiology is being launched to address the training gap in Latin America, led by Mexican cardiologist Julio César Sauza Sosa.

In the field of structural cardiology, an initiative is taking shape to bridge the training gap in Latin America. Mexican cardiologist Julio César Sauza Sosa has launched Structural Heart LATAM, an educational platform in Spanish focused on advanced cardiovascular procedures, which previously had limited training options in the region. The initiative has already seen two generations of participating doctors from various Latin American countries, with a third edition planned in the coming weeks.

One of the key findings from the program has been that many specialists enrolling were either unaware of certain procedures or lacked practical training opportunities. The platform combines online content with live sessions led by instructors, aiming to build a regional network of structural cardiology specialists. This approach not only enhances knowledge but also fosters collaboration among professionals across the region.

To strengthen the teaching staff, interventional cardiologist Luis Roberto Álvarez has joined the initiative, bringing additional expertise to the program. This collaborative effort signifies a commitment to elevating the standard of cardiovascular care in Latin America, addressing the existing shortcomings in training and education for healthcare professionals in this vital area.
