Libyan authorities identify 3 suspects in the assassination of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi

Libyan authorities have identified three suspects involved in the assassination of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi and issued orders for their arrest.

On Thursday, the Libyan Public Prosecutor announced that three suspects in the assassination of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, have been identified. The assassination took place in Zintan in early February, and the authorities have confirmed that arrest warrants have been issued for the suspects, though their identities have not yet been disclosed.

The Prosecutor's office released a statement detailing that investigations have tracked the movements of the suspects leading up to the assassination, including where they met and the vehicles they used to approach the crime scene located on the outskirts of Zintan, approximately 145 kilometers southwest of the capital, Tripoli. This thorough investigation indicates that the suspects meticulously planned the attack, surveilling Gaddafi at his residence before executing the assassination with automatic weapons.

According to a representative of Saif al-Islam's political team, the attack was carried out by four masked gunmen who stormed his home in the afternoon. The attackers reportedly disabled the surveillance cameras before shooting, and there was a confrontation prior to Gaddafi's death. The political team is calling for an international investigation into the circumstances surrounding this high-profile assassination, reflecting the ongoing volatility and complexity of Libya's political landscape post-Gaddafi.
