The war in Iran hits Greek exports
The ongoing war in Iran is significantly challenging Greek exports to markets in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf.
Greek exports are facing increased challenges in Middle Eastern and Persian Gulf markets due to the ongoing war and geopolitical tensions in the region, creating a climate of uncertainty for international trade. Preliminary data from ELSTAT for 2025 indicate that despite these challenges, Greek businesses maintain a strong presence in several of these markets, although developments in the Middle East are likely to influence their export paths in the coming months. The leading destination for Greek exports in the region remains Lebanon, which ranks 14th among Greece's total export markets, with Greek products valued at β¬1.17 billion directed towards the country in 2025, despite a slight decline of 4.4% compared to 2024. Even with this decrease, Lebanon continues to be a key commercial destination for Greek products in the broader Middle East region.
