Attention FASTag Users! Do This Before Recharge
FASTag users are warned about cyber fraud involving fake websites that can redirect their money during recharge.
FASTag simplifies highway toll collections in India, but users are being warned about the need for caution when recharging their accounts. Incidents of cyber fraud have been reported, where scammers create fake websites that mimic legitimate platforms, tricking users into entering their payment information. This results in funds being directed to the scammers' accounts rather than the FASTag wallets intended for toll payments.
The Ministry of Home Affairs agency, CyberDost I4C, has alerted the public through social media, specifically on X (formerly Twitter), about these scams targeting FASTag users. In their communications, they have shared a video illustrating how a user, looking to recharge, falls victim to the scam when a friend offers a link to a fraudulent website. The threat is serious enough to prompt a warning for users to be vigilant and verify websites before making any transactions related to their FASTag accounts.
The increasing number of fake websites claiming to be affiliated with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) emphasizes the growing trend of cyber fraud in the digital payment space. Users are urged to only use official NHAI channels for recharging their FASTags and to report any suspicious activities they encounter online. As digital payment methods become more prevalent, the risk of cyber fraud is a critical public concern that necessitates greater awareness and proactive measures from users.
