Manitoba’s Dunstone, Calvert rinks qualify for Brier playoffs
Two Manitoba curling teams, led by Matt Dunstone and Braden Calvert, have qualified for the playoffs in the Brier after successful performances in the round-robin stage.
At the Montana’s Brier curling championship, two Manitoba teams have successfully qualified for the playoffs, showcasing their competitive skills. The Matt Dunstone rink, with a strong performance, concluded the round-robin stage with a commendable 7-1 record, securing second place in Pool B following their recent victory over Saskatchewan's Mike McEwen. In contrast, Braden Calvert's team, after facing an extra-end loss to New Brunswick early Thursday, rebounded with an 8-4 win against Northern Ontario, finishing with a 5-3 record and managing to clinch the final playoff spot through a tiebreaker.
With these qualifications set, the Dunstone rink is poised to face the dominant Newfoundland/Labrador team led by Brad Gushue in the playoffs, which will certainly be a match to watch considering Gushue's unbeaten record. Meanwhile, Calvert's team will wait to find out their opponent after the conclusion of the other playoff matches scheduled for Friday night. This year's Brier demonstrates the intense competition and resilience of the teams, with Manitoba notably having a strong representation as they proceed deeper into the championship rounds.
