Lithuanian intelligence institutions to present annual threat assessment
Lithuania's State Security Department and the Second Operational Services Department will present their annual national security threat assessment focused on risks from Russia, Belarus, and China.
Lithuania's intelligence agencies, including the State Security Department (VSD) and the Second Operational Services Department (AOTD), are set to unveil their annual threat assessment that evaluates national security risks. A central focus of the report is the threats posed by Russia, Belarus, and China, particularly through their intelligence operations within Lithuania. As international tensions rise, the evaluations highlight the potential impacts of these foreign activities on Lithuania’s security landscape.
In addition to analyzing external threats, the assessment also scrutinizes internal dynamics that may influence national security, emphasizing the importance of monitoring individuals or movements that could pose risks within the country. The context reflects ongoing concerns about espionage and political influence from neighboring states, resonating with broader geopolitical patterns in the region.
The presentation will be made by key figures including VSD Director Remigijus Bridikis, AOTD Director Mindaugas Mažonas, and Rimantas Sinkevičius, the Chairman of the National Security and Defense Committee of the Seimas. Their involvement underscores the gravity of the findings and the commitment to strengthening national security amidst evolving threats.
