Woman beaten with a beer can, punches, and knocked off a motorcycle by partner in PA had already filed three police reports against him, says family
A 31-year-old woman is hospitalized in serious condition after being brutally attacked by her partner in Tomé-Açú, Pará, where she had previously reported him for domestic violence three times in 2025.
A 31-year-old woman is in critical condition after a severe assault by her partner in Tomé-Açú, northeastern Pará. According to her family, the woman had previously filed three police reports against the assailant in 2025. The partner had been arrested after one of the reports but was released shortly thereafter upon paying bail. The couple had been in a relationship for approximately 11 years and shared three children together. The police have been questioned about the history of violence and the suspect's prior release but have not provided any comments.
The latest incident occurred on a Sunday, leading to the man's preventive detention on the following Tuesday. Reports indicate that the woman was attacked initially with a beer can at a bar and was subsequently knocked off a motorcycle in an accident caused by her partner. While unconscious on the ground, she was hit repeatedly, leaving her with cranial trauma. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Metropolitan Hospital of Urgency and Emergency (HMUE).
This case raises troubling questions about the effectiveness of protective measures for domestic violence victims, especially given the victim's previous attempts to seek help from law enforcement. The apparent failure to keep the abuser in custody and the lack of communication from police regarding the ongoing situation reflect systemic issues in handling domestic violence cases in Brazil. This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for reforms to better protect individuals from intimate partner violence, ensuring that earlier warning signs are taken seriously and preventative actions are firmly enforced.
