Toyota to reduce domestic production for Middle Eastern exports by 20,000 units due to worsening situation from Iran attacks
Toyota plans to cut domestic production for exports to the Middle East by 20,000 vehicles due to the deteriorating situation following attacks on Iran by the US and Israel.
Toyota Motor Corporation announced it will reduce its domestic production of vehicles destined for Middle Eastern markets by 20,000 vehicles by the end of March. This decision comes in light of the escalating tensions in the region, particularly due to military actions taken by the United States and Israel against Iran, which have made navigation through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz more difficult. In a move to address these challenges, the company has informed major parts manufacturers of its production reduction plans as of early March.
The affected models include popular options like the large SUV, the Land Cruiser, and the sedan, the Camry. Toyotaβs approach indicates a proactive stance towards managing the risks posed by geopolitical developments. The company is also set to reassess the situation after April, depending on how the circumstances in the Middle East evolve, showing their agility in operations amidst external pressures.
In 2025, Toyota exported 320,000 vehicles to the Middle East, which accounted for approximately 16% of the total exports from Japan (2,031,000 vehicles). This production cut represents a significant adjustment for Toyota in response to the changing landscape of international trade and security in a volatile region, highlighting the interconnectedness of global supply chains and geopolitical events.
