(VIDEO) Pile-up on the Mexico-Querétaro highway closes lanes towards CDMX: The crash involved a trailer and cars

A multi-car pile-up on the Mexico-Querétaro highway caused significant traffic disruptions without reported injuries on March 5.

On March 5, a serious multi-car collision occurred on the Mexico-Querétaro highway at kilometer 53, involving a trailer and a heavy-duty truck. The incident took place while heading towards Querétaro, near the municipality of Coyotepec in the State of Mexico, leading to severe traffic congestion in that area. Fortunately, authorities reported that there were no injuries or fatalities resulting from the accident, though the cause remains unclear.

The collision caused significant delays, prompting changes in traffic management as federal roads and bridges authority, Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe), worked to reopen the highway. By around 6:10 PM, traffic was resumed, albeit with reduced lanes while crews removed the vehicles involved in the pile-up. The event follows a previous incident on January 13, where a gas truck explosion had similarly disrupted traffic on this busy route, highlighting ongoing safety and traffic challenges.

Traffic monitoring services indicated that congestion stretched from the toll booth at Jorbas to Coyotepec, affecting nearby areas like Santa Teresa and routes towards Mexico City. The situation illustrates the dangers of heavy traffic on major highways and raises concerns regarding road safety measures, especially in light of recent incidents on the same highway.
