'Lack of cultural safety' in ACT public service prompts call for inquiry

A former senior public servant in the ACT has called for an inquiry into the treatment of First Nations staff in the government workforce due to ongoing issues of discrimination and lack of cultural safety.

Brendan Moyle, the former head of the ACT Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs, has publicly urged for an inquiry into the treatment of First Nations staff within the ACT public service. During his two-and-a-half year tenure, he observed significant issues related to discrimination and racism, as well as a severe lack of cultural safety for Indigenous employees. Moyle expresses frustration that these concerns were not adequately addressed during his time in office, indicating a persistent culture of disregard for Indigenous workers' wellbeing.
