Operation against crimes of the Maria da Penha Law arrests 10 and seizes rifles and pistols in the central-west of São Paulo

A police operation in São Paulo led to the arrest of ten individuals and the seizure of firearms while addressing crimes under the Maria da Penha Law.

The "Mulher Segura" operation, executed by the Civil Police with support from the Military Police, took place on Thursday in various cities of the central-west region of São Paulo. During this operation, several arrest and search warrants were executed targeting individuals convicted or under investigation for crimes against the Maria da Penha Law, which addresses violence against women. This law enables the arrest of men for serious offenses such as feminicide, physical assault, moral and psychological violence, as well as rape.

In total, ten arrests were made during this operation, with several individuals apprehended for violating protective measures ordered by the court. Additionally, some were arrested in the act for threats and bodily harm. The operation also facilitated the issuance of 33 urgent protective measures and provided assistance to 63 victims in attendance, demonstrating a coordinated effort by law enforcement agencies to safeguard women in the region.

The operation highlights ongoing efforts to enforce protective laws against gender-based violence in Brazil, an essential step towards addressing such issues amid rising instances of violence against women. This mobilization marks a significant intervention against those exploiting the vulnerabilities of women, encouraging further initiatives and support for victims seeking help under the Maria da Penha Law.
