The Seoul Education Office will relocate to a new building in Yongsan after 45 years in Jongno, opening some spaces to citizens.
After 45 years, the Seoul Education Office is set to move from its long-standing location in Jongno to a new building in Huham-dong, Yongsan. This transition is scheduled to occur over a week starting from the 13th of this month, during which various departments will relocate to the newly constructed premises. The new facility has been designed to include open spaces accessible to citizens, such as a lobby connecting to nearby Yongsan Park and a plaza that integrates community pathways and greenery. The building will also house an auditorium and conference rooms available for local residents.
The office environment in the new building embraces a smart office model aimed at enhancing collaboration and communication among staff. Although each department will have designated office space, employees will practices a reservation system for their workstations, promoting flexible work habits. Additionally, approximately 10% of the workforce will operate from a shared work center, emphasizing a modern approach to office use.
The new building measures 39,937 square meters across six floors above ground and three underground, situated on the site of the former Seoul Women's High School. Established at a cost of approximately 176.7 billion won, the architectural design is led by a team from W Architects, which includes architects trained at the prestigious Foster + Partners firm. Plans for the previous Jongno site encompass transforming the area into a historical and cultural park, significantly expanding the public green space in Seoul.
