A homeless person dies in Badalona, the second in a week

Badalona records the death of a homeless individual, marking the second such incident in a week and the fourth since the start of the year, with no signs of violence reported in any case.

In a concerning trend, Badalona has reported the death of its second homeless individual within a week, bringing the total number of homeless fatalities in the city to four since the beginning of the year. The most recent victim was found on a bench in Plaza Elisa Reverter, with the news of their passing made public shortly thereafter. Authorities state that none of these deaths exhibited signs of violence, suggesting that various factors, possibly including natural causes, may be involved in these tragedies.

The local police, Mossos d’Esquadra, are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding these deaths, with the latest being attributed to natural causes. Just a day before the latest reported death, another homeless man, Jordi, aged 52, was also found deceased. It was noted that Jordi had previously owned a butcher shop in the city, highlighting the diverse background of individuals facing homelessness.

Social organizations in Badalona are criticizing the municipal government, led by Xavier García Albiol of the Popular Party (PP), for failing to address the rising number of homeless fatalities. They argue that there is a pressing need for effective solutions and welfare initiatives to support the vulnerable homeless population, who are increasingly at risk in dire conditions, especially with the lack of immediate government action in response to these recent deaths.
