Iraq: Exiled Iranian Kurdish Organizations Say They Were Again Attacked by Tehran

Exiled Iranian Kurdish organizations based in northern Iraq reported new attacks from Iran, resulting in injuries to at least two individuals.

Exiled Iranian Kurdish organizations operating out of northern Iraq announced that they have been subjected to fresh attacks by Iranian forces. On the afternoon of the incident, two rockets struck their headquarters in the Habat district of the Erbil province, injuring two party members. This attack was attributed to Iran by Mardin Zahidi, a member of the Iranian Kurdish Movement Organization.

Shortly after the rocket attacks, a drone strike targeted a camp of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan in the Koisindja region. This camp had previously been attacked earlier in the week, highlighting an escalating pattern of aggression toward Kurdish opposition groups by Iranian authorities, likely fueled by fears that these groups might exploit instability in the region, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict in Iraq.

Iran has confirmed its strikes against the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan, where several exiled Kurdish organizations operate. The strikes are part of Tehran's broader concerns regarding the empowerment of armed Kurdish groups amidst the turmoil of war, potentially leading to challenges against the Iranian government from these factions.
