Waterbaby makes a stunning debut album
The acclaimed Stockholm artist Waterbaby releases her first full-length album, showcasing sparse and warm arrangements.
Waterbaby, whose real name is Kendra Egerbladh, has made her mark in the Swedish music scene as a significant new talent. Her debut album, "Memory be a blade," is released to widespread acclaim and features a unique sound characterized by sparse and warm arrangements. Having previously gained recognition as a backing vocalist for popular artist Seinabo Sey, Egerbladh has solidified her position as a solo artist, and the album reflects her artistic growth and exploration of sound.
The journey that led to this album began when Waterbaby was invited to a songwriting camp in Gambia while working with Sey. There, she connected with artist Hannes and producer Marcus White, who played a pivotal role in her subsequent hit single "Stockholmsvy" in 2022. With the release of her album following her 2023 debut EP "Foam," Waterbaby continues to build on her dynamic music career, blending influences from various genres such as pop and R’n’B.
Critics, including Frida Söderqvist from Dagens Nyheter, have praised the album, highlighting its unique sound and emotional depth. The anticipation surrounding Waterbaby's debut signifies not only her potential as an artist but also the vibrancy of the contemporary Swedish music landscape, which is increasingly gaining recognition on international stages.
